Can bass be their first instrument?
Yes. They don’t need guitar experience or music-reading skills to begin. Early lessons build comfortable technique and steady time through simple notes and songs they enjoy.
Should we start with a four-string bass?
A four-string bass is usually a useful starting point. Fit matters too: the distance between frets and the instrument’s scale length affect how comfortable it feels. Talk with the teacher about a suitable size before buying.
What do we need for practice at home?
Plan for a comfortably sized bass, a cable, a tuner, and a small bass practice amp or a suitable headphone setup. Your teacher can help you choose equipment and a focused practice routine. Ask the team what to bring to the free trial before purchasing anything.
What if they already play guitar?
Their fretboard familiarity can help, while lessons focus on the bass player’s role: supporting the harmony, controlling note length, and connecting with the drums. The goal is to make the whole group sound good.
How will I know what they’re working on?
Practice Challenge is included with membership. Parents can see progress and weekly teacher updates. Students practice between lessons, earn credits, and redeem them for Prize Wall rewards.
How do we find a teacher and lesson time?
Start with a free trial. The BLE team will confirm the teacher match and current availability at the Friendswood studio. Weekly times change as students enroll.
