Which drum kit should I buy?

Think about who shares your walls and floor. Headphones, pedal feel and the room where you play make a bigger difference at home than a long list of drum sounds.

Alesis Nitro Max

For a first home kit where headphone practice is useful, start here. Its mesh drum heads and kick tower let you work on stick patterns and bass-drum pedal technique together.

Compare the three options

Alesis Nitro Max

Electronic · mesh heads · kick tower and pedal

Headphones carry the electronic sounds. Stick taps and the kick beater still make physical noise, so check the floor beneath your practice space. Allow for a stool and headphones.

Roland TD-02K

Electronic · compact rack · beaterless kick

The pedal feels different from an acoustic kick. Some tapping and vibration still travel, so agree on a practice time. Budget for sticks, a stool and headphones.

Pearl Roadshow 5-piece

Acoustic · five drums · 22-inch bass drum

The linked RS525SC kit includes cymbals, stands, pedals, a stool and sticks. It takes more floor space and produces the most room sound of these three.

Before you bring a kit home

Leave room for a drum stool and for both feet to reach their pedals comfortably. If the kit will sit upstairs, have someone listen below while you try the pedals. For early hand patterns, your teacher can give you stick work for a practice pad while you decide.
